Religious Education and
Formation at Holy Family Parish
Religious Education at Holy Family Parish includes Tiny Seeds (two to five year olds), Carroll Catholic School serving three year old pre school, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten through eight grades), Holy Family Religious Education for Public School serving grades one through eight, and our High School Program - Active Catholic Teens (ACT). Also included are various adult education programs.
Our Parish Mission Statement reminds us that we are dedicated to serve the needs of everyone in the parish - from birth to death. The introduction to the National Directory for Catechesis begins with Matthew’s account of Christ commissioning his disciples before his Ascension telling them [and us] to go out and baptize the entire world “teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” The US Bishops expanded this idea further as they say: “Christ first directs his apostles to go, to set out in all directions with a specific goal in their hearts: to proclaim his Gospel and bring people in communion with God. They are not to stay where they are, wondering what to do.” This is a lifelong process. The Bishops continue: “Being a believer means that one lives a certain way—walking with the Lord, doing justice, loving kindness, living peaceably among all people.” They remind us that we must “continue our efforts to become more authentic communities of faith and centers of evangelization.”
While recognizing that parents are the primary educators of their children, The Directory spells out in detail the roles of the Bishop, Pastor, Pastoral Ministers and Committees, Teachers, and Catechists in order to accomplish these goals. Each one of these groups has separate tasks and yet must work together to make our parishes be the evangelizing community that Christ commands us to be.
Our parish pastoral plan called “Building God’s Kingdom” was established to examine, prioritize, and discuss solutions to the challenges facing Holy Family Parish today.” Groups have been formed to implement our plans that will produce some great results - helping to make this a more welcoming and enthusiastic faith family. As a result, several enhancements have been made to strengthen our Religious Education Program. We believe these improvements will help us in the work of evangelization: Among the recommendations of our pastoral planning efforts is the Faith Formation Commission. The Commission has been formed to advise the Pastor and Director of Religious Education. One of the first challenges facing the Commission included studying our Sacramental preparation Programs.
Throughout our lives, the Church provides us with various religious education programs. Opportunities for prayer and service help us live as devoted disciples of Jesus Christ - carrying his message to our families and everyone we meet. This handbook serves as a guide to help you understand this vision so that we can help each other on our journey of faith - discovering where Jesus fits into our lives.
